This isn’t my typical Writerly Resource post. Instead, this is a celebration post! Because it is so important to celebrate our victories, no matter how small they seem. And I figured maybe some of you would like an update on how my own writing progress is going.
Today’s victory… I’VE FINISHED MY COPYEDITS!
Before I turn into a pile of excited mush, let me start from the beginning of this story…
Recently I’ve been doing a lot of research into the self-publishing industry. First, because I have made a handful of author friends who are self-published and I want to know more about the process. Secondly, because I might consider it for myself someday.
I certainly won’t know if it is something I might be interested in unless I do my homework.
Well, I didn’t do as many monthly posts as I wanted to this November but there is a VERY good reason for that! This month was Busy (with a capital B.) Not just because of Nano but because I did a lot of other things worth celebrating!
Hello everyone! Today I don’t really have any writing tips or tricks but instead am just lamenting about my current writing status, despairs, and achievements! This month has been nothing but chaotic for me, which is good, but I often feel like I’m not getting everything I want to achieve done.
At the same time, a LOT has happened! A lot of good and nerve-wracking things, that I can share with you all.

Tonight at midnight our calendars shift into November and writers everywhere will begin the fast-paced adventure of writing a novel in a month! But before that happens, the panic sets in.
Welcome back, everyone! I’ve returned from an exhausting but amazing trip to Japan. For this trip, I made the conscious decision not to bring my laptop. It was painful and I probably won’t be doing that again, but it also allowed me to disconnect from my current WIPs and come back with fresh eyes.
But while I was disconnected I still received emails on my phone. I’m still waiting for that day when I get a little ‘Ping’ and an email that requests a full manuscript. Unfortunately, all I received was another rejection and news that I did not make the finals for a contest I entered.
I won’t lie, it was a bummer.
But it means I can keep moving forward.
After starring at the same words for months, maybe years it is easy to feel lost in your project. The passion is just gone. Maybe there are other plot bunnies floating by your head, tempting you with their ideas and characters and they look so appealing.
I turned to advise on how to keep passion in romantic relationships and tried applying it to the relationship between writer / WIP. You two started out this relationship great- it was an instant connection. The words were flowing and you were having an amazing time exploring this new concept. Then something happens. The dreaded middle, writer’s block, maybe things just aren’t going the way you planned. Maybe you’ve edited the thing so many times you are sick of it!
Fear not. Everyone has these moments of doubt. It isn’t anything new and it will pass. That is the most important part, so let’s repeat it. It will pass. But if you need an extra boost to rekindle that passion and love you once had for this special project, below are a few good places to start.
